The Environment
There are many aspects to environmental awareness. Helaba’s environmental awareness can be seen in its readiness to finance or otherwise help ecological projects get off the ground, and in its balanced use of energy in its workspaces.
The MAIN TOWER
The MAIN TOWER – in fact a combination of a round and an angular tower – has been a characteristic element of the “Mainhattan” skyline since 1999, and was the first office tower in Frankfurt to open its doors to the public. It has 2000 workstations distributed over 56 floors, and set standards in energy efficiency with the combined heat and power produced by its own block heating and generating plant and the use of geothermal energy. What’s more, the intelligent technology of its façade contributes to insulation and cooling.
Financing ecological technologies
Systems for exploiting renewable sources of energy such as the sun, wind, biomass and geothermal heat are investments in the future. Helaba finances projects in this sector, which is characterised by technical innovations. And whether it’s photovoltaics, wind power, hydroelectric power, geothermal power or biomass that’s being used, for Helaba, assuring the long-term profitability of a project is an important consideration when granting financing.
LBS Hessen-Thüringen, a division of Helaba, promotes photovoltaics with its specially developed “LBS energy loan for solar power”. This product is designed as a combined prefinancing loan and savings agreement and allows investors to finance a photovoltaics plant without using their own capital. The interest and the amount deposited under the savings agreement, plus the subsequent interest and mortgage payments, are covered by what the investor earns from feeding the solar power into the public grid system.
The Bank for economic and public infrastructure development of hesse (WIBank), another of Helaba’s divisions, also promotes projects for exploiting renewable energy sources. Investment projects it is helping finance for the state of Hesse include biomass heating plants, the ecological development of residential areas and energy saving through modernisation. The Bank for economic and public infrastructure development of hesse (WIBank) also provides loans to municipalities for building waste water plants. Other environmental programmes to do with water and the protection of inland water bodies are supported by the Bank for economic and public infrastructure development of hesse (WIBank).
Supporting – And Doing.
Environmental awareness begins with the individual – but also with individual organisations such as Helaba. This is why we support groundbreaking projects, often with specific financing products. But we also set high standards for ourselves, for example in the energy efficient design of our corporate building in Frankfurt am Main.
