As a good "corporate citizen", Helaba takes its responsibility towards its home regions of Hesse and Thuringia very seriously - that’s why our engagement here extends to sport as well as culture. And we look for partners who are bound by the same values as us – excellence, professionalism, team spirit and regional solidarity.
In the area of sport, we have tended to opt for sponsoring deals and partnerships lasting several years, for example for:
- The » The IRONMAN European Championship triathlon event,
- the charity » Sporthilfe Hessen (Sport Aid Hesse), and
- a partnership with » Eintracht Frankfurt
Why is Helaba sponsoring Frankfurter Sparkasse's IRONMAN?
The IRONMAN European Championship stands not just for performance, endurance and versatility: it also represents a special kind of regional event. Every year spectators and participants alike are inspired by the championship, which has been held in Frankfurt every year to date. In 2008 more than two thousand participants from over fifty-four countries stepped up to the starting line in Langen near Frankfurt, competing in the three disciplines swimming (3.8 km), cycling (180 km) and marathon (approx. 42 km) before some 250,000 spectators.
Helaba has been confirmed until 2011 as the title sponsor for this special event, which is being publicised again as "Frankfurter Sparkasse European Championship powered by 1822direkt". We are also supporting the anti-doping initiative "Eiserne Transparenz" (cast-iron transparency), because as sponsors it is up to us to ensure that the competition is fair as well as exciting.
Why do we support the charity Sporthilfe Hessen?
Sporting events are only as good as the sportsmen and women who compete in them. Outstanding achievement in sport is however only possible if there is consistent sponsorship available for high achieving sportsmen and women and the many who are hoping to follow in their footsteps. And as well as talent and a willingness to work hard, there’s mainly just one thing they need to be successful, and that’s financial security. The aim of Sporthilfe Hessen, therefore, is to provide the sportsmen and women of Hesse with the support they need on their way to the top - and Helaba is glad to help.
Why do we partner Eintracht Frankfurt?
It is important to us that the Rhine-Main region offers Federal League football. But that’s not the only reason why we are one of six “premium partners" of Eintracht Frankfurt – we also like shouting “our” team on. So for every home game, we put an advert in the stadium magazine.

Because both sport and play are good for everyone, because clubs and initiatives need strong partners and because events such as the IRONMAN European Championship have long been permanent fixtures on the calendars of countless thousands, participants and spectators alike.
