Culture
The sponsorship of cultural and educational projects is a contribution to public life that we are happy to make. Apart from anything else, it raises international regard for the regions to which we feel attached:
Erfurt: theatre in spectacular setting of cathedral steps
The “Domstufen” plays (cathedral steps plays) in Erfurt have become a much looked-forward-to event on the city’s summer calendar. Together with its partners in the Sparkasse Financial Group Hesse-Thüringia, Helaba has been an enthusiastic contributor since the first Domstufen plays in 1994, and is lead sponsor.
Finance Capitals - Classic Nights
The event took its name from the idea - to invite the classical orchestras of major financial metropolises to Frankfurt, where the Altes Oper is to host a programme of great orchestras from London, Milan and New York, including the London Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra and the orchestras of the Scala in Milan and the Metropolitan Opera in New York, as well as the Philharmonic Orchestra of New York. The thought of so much artistic excellence being gathered together in one place is very exciting.
Rheingau Music Festival: Enjoying art with tradition
Since it began in 1987, the Rheingau Music Festival has developed into a major cultural event, attracting around 120,000 each year to its 40 or more venues. This almost exclusively privately financed festival attracts performers of the highest quality from across the whole music spectrum, from classical to jazz to cabaret. Helaba has been a sponsor of the event since 1991, and looks forward to many years of promoting this lively cultural scene in the future.
Professorship at the Insitute of Law and Finance (ILF)
As a financial centre, Frankfurt is not alone in wanting to benefit from the competence of outstandingly qualified university graduates. And starting 2006, Helaba will be strengthening the research capacity of the University of Frankfurt through the endowment of a professorship – initially for five years – at the Department of Banking Law at the Institute of Law and Finance (ILF). The ILF was set up in 2002 as an interdisciplinary and international competence centre, in close collaboration with Frankfurt’s financial institutions and German industry in general. Its particular aim is to be a centre of exchange between research and practice in the field of law and finance.
Harmony In Diversity
There is a rich tradition of music, literature and science in Hesse and Thuringia, a tradition mirrored by the equally vital and multifaceted cultural life of the region today. As one of the region’s sponsors, we are part of this, and proud of the contribution we make to its attractiveness.
